Sheba Negev is responsible for bringing the new Shimon Peres Medical Center to Be’er Sheva, relieving the pressure on the existing Soroka University Medical Center, and improving medical services for over a million people. In 2024, Israel Government Resolution 1731 declared that the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Health would work together to establish and operate a new public hospital in Be’er Sheva, under the auspices of the Leumit and Meuhedet healthcare services. Sheba Negev, a subsidiary of Sheba Medical Center, was created to plan and construct this hospital. Shimon Peres Medical Center is intended to be a state-of-the-art hospital that will provide international-standard care to residents of Be’er Sheva and the southern region, adapted to their specific needs. The Negev is currently suffering from a significant bed shortage, as well as a lack of pediatric and maternity beds – which are in especially high demand due to the young population and high birth rates.
