Northern R&D invites applications for a research position, starting in 2026, offering a unique opportunity to work as an applied researcher and play a central, influential role in a key agricultural sector in Israelโs renewing northern region.
Scientific Field: Poultry โ Laying Hens (Egg Production)
Position Scope
The researcher will focus on the poultry sector, with specialization in laying hens (egg production), emphasizing physiological and agro-technological aspects aimed at improving production efficiency and product quality.
The role includes direct research and/or collaborative activities in areas such as:
Laying hen health and welfare
Egg quality
Production systems and management practices
Nutrition
Environmental and climate control in poultry houses
Production efficiency and sustainability
Disease management
Sensors and data integration
Interfaces with industry and regulation
Position Description
The successful candidate will:
Initiate, design, and conduct applied research
Develop research proposals in accordance with national and international funding frameworks and secure research funding
Analyze and interpret research results and prepare them for publication in reports and professional journals
Establish and maintain collaborations with farmers, researchers, extension specialists, and professional stakeholders in Israel and abroad
Serve as a central hub for knowledge generation and dissemination to the agricultural community
Requirements
PhD in a relevant field (postdoctoral experience โ an advantage)
Knowledge and experience in poultry biology and production (experience with laying hens โ an advantage)
Demonstrated originality, initiative, and ability to lead independent research
Ability to work in a team and manage staff
Strong skills in research planning, scientific writing, and reporting
Ability to collaborate with researchers from diverse institutions
Proficiency in Hebrew and English, including scientific writing
Willingness to work beyond standard working hours when required
Residence in northern Israel or willingness to relocate
Additional Information
The selected candidate will begin in a tenure-track position, in accordance with the regulations of the Northern R&D professional committee.
