Application Engineer
Location: Jerusalem
Type: Full-time
Reports To: Integration & Validation Team Lead
Company Overview
We are an innovative growth company in the field of silicon photonics packaging, solving one of the key challenges in enabling next-generation co-packaged optics solutions for AI infrastructure, Data Centers, and High-Performance Computing. Our multidisciplinary team combines optics and packaging expertise to bring cutting-edge technologies from concept to scalable production.
Role Overview
As an Integration & Validation Engineer, you will play a key role in the characterization, validation, and continuous improvement of advanced photonic products and assembly processes. You will work closely with R&D, process, and manufacturing teams to investigate product performance, understand failure mechanisms, develop test methodologies, and improve measurement capabilities.
This role combines hands-on laboratory work, optical characterization, data-driven analysis, automation development, and root-cause investigation. We are looking for an engineer who enjoys both working with their hands and applying analytical thinking to solve complex technical challenges.
What You Will Be Doing
Perform optical characterization and validation of photonic devices, fiber assemblies, and packaged products
Operate and improve automated scanning and measurement stations
Analyze optical performance data and investigate deviations from design expectations
Design and execute experiments to better understand product behavior, process sensitivities, and failure mechanisms
Lead root-cause investigations for product failures, performance variations, and unexpected measurement results
Develop automated analysis tools and laboratory utilities using Python
Collaborate with R&D, process, mechanical, optics, and manufacturing teams to support product development and qualification
Create and maintain test procedures, validation protocols, technical reports, and engineering documentation
Identify opportunities to improve measurement methods, throughput, accuracy, and data quality
Work closely with global customers, suppliers, and development partners across multiple countries and time zones
Support project execution in a dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines
What We Need to See
B.Sc. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field
1–5 years of experience in engineering, validation, test development, optics, photonics, or related fields
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to root-cause analysis
Hands-on laboratory experience with optical, electro-optical, or precision measurement systems
Experience analyzing complex datasets and drawing meaningful technical conclusions
Proficiency in Python for data analysis, automation, or test development
Strong technical communication skills in English (written and verbal)
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, customers, and suppliers across multiple countries worldwide
Travel – Up to 1 week/month
Ways to Stand Out
Experience with silicon photonics, fiber optics, optical packaging, or optical communications
Familiarity with automated test systems, motion control, machine vision, or laboratory automation
Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical data analysis
Knowledge of image processing, data science, or machine learning techniques
Experience developing software tools for engineering or laboratory environments
Strong understanding of optical measurements such as insertion loss, return loss, alignment, and polarization effects
Experience working in multidisciplinary R&D environments and transitioning products from development to manufacturing
Demonstrated ability to independently investigate complex technical problems and develop practical solutions
